چکیده

Local magnetic properties around a nonmagnetic impurity are investigated in high-Tc cuprate superconductors. We consider a model two-dimensional dx2−y2-wave superconductor with strong antiferromagnetic (AF) spin fluctuations and calculate the spin susceptibility around the impurity. We show that the uniform susceptibility (χ(0)), which is usually suppressed in spin-singlet superconductivity, is enhanced at low temperatures around the impurity when the impurity scattering is in the unitarity limit. This anomalous behavior is more remarkable when the impurity potential is extended spatially and the AF spin fluctuations are stronger. As the origin of this phenomenon, we point out the importance of (1) a low-energy bound state around the impurity and (2) a mode-mode coupling effect which connects the AF spin fluctuations with χ(0). Our results can explain the anomalous temperature dependence of the Knight shift on Li which was recently observed in YBa2(Cu1−xLix)3O6+y. Typeset using REVTEX 1

Impurity Resonances and the Origin of the Pseudo-Gap

We study the structure of resonance states localized around nonmagnetic impurities in the CuO2 planes of the cuprate superconductors within a potential scattering formalism. In particular we show that strong quantum interference effects arise between several impurities. This interference can be utilized to distinguish the dwave superconducting state from the phase with d-density wave order. Thi...

Magnetic Properties of the Doped Two-dimensional Antiferromagnet

The variety of the normal-state magnetic properties of cuprate high-Tc superconductors is interpreted based on the self-consistent solution of the self-energy equations for the two-dimensional t-J model. The observed variations of the spin correlation length with the hole concentration x, of the spin susceptibility with x and temperature T and the scaling of the static uniform susceptibility ar...

85 v 5 2 2 O ct 2 00 6 Theory of quantum impurities in spin liquids

We describe spin correlations in the vicinity of a generalized impurity in a wide class of fractionalized spin liquid states. We argue that the primary characterization of the impurity is its electric charge under the gauge field describing singlet excitations in the spin liquid. We focus on two gapless U(1) spin liquids described by 2+1 dimensional conformal field theories (CFT): the staggered...

Very high upper critical fields in MgB2 produced by selective tuning of impurity scattering

We report a significant enhancement of the upper critical field Hc2 of different MgB2 samples alloyed with nonmagnetic impurities. By studying films and bulk polycrystals with different resistivities ρ, we show a clear trend of an increase in Hc2 as ρ increases. One particular high resistivity film had a zero-temperature Hc2(0) well above the Hc2 values of competing non-cuprate superconductors ...

1 Superconductivity and spin fluctuations in the electron - doped infinitely - layered high

We report Cu NMR studies on uniaxially aligned and unaligned powder samples of an electron-doped infinitely-layered high Tc cuprate superconductor Sr0.9La0.1CuO2 (Tc =42 K). We measured the nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate 1/T1 up to 800 K. We found from the temperature dependence of 1/T1T that the wave-vector-averaged spin susceptibility is highly enhanced by spin-fluctuations in the norma...
